Who I am is because of what I consume
Eating makes me whole
I understand the sea’s salt
Earth’s musty stalks of fungus
Sour pucker of tamarind
Sweet juicy muscle of a kiss
The meal begins
Politely or shyly
Watching for cues, which fork to use first
Another day perhaps we are desperate for mealtime
Both lunging at the main and sides
Stealing what bits of the good parts we can
Fingers in everything
One meal might have many courses
Or be a sweet savored tidbit of delicacy
Any which way we take and serve, swallow and ingest, eye, play with, and masticate together
Until we’re done
Dip your finger in my leftover sauces
Trace designs in the remaining messes
I’ll lick the plate shiny clean
Dine with me again
To Breath and Being,
~ Karin
